The Vršič Pass at 1,611m is the highest mountain pass in Slovenia, crossing the Julian Alps between Kranjska Gora and the Soča valley. The road consists of 50 tight hairpin bends, built by Russian prisoners of war in WWI, and descends to the emerald green Soča river — one of Europe's most beautiful.
