The Col du Lautaret at 2,058m is an important crossroads pass in the Hautes-Alpes, sitting at the junction of the Romanche and Guisane valleys with a fine view of the Meije glacier. The alpine botanical garden here is one of the finest in Europe, justifying a stop.
